PATIENT SAFETY

VAR provides access to evidence-based and up-to-date professional procedures. Organisations with access to VAR are equipped to work in a professional and responsible manner. The content in VAR is updated according to the latest available knowledge, providing a basis for improving service quality, as required by the Norwegian health authorities.

Therefore, VAR is an important partner in patient safety efforts within the healthcare system.

The Norwegian version of VAR complies with Norwegian legal requirements and guidelines. We monitor changes and update the content of the database continuously and help ensure that companies that use VAR comply with Section 6c of the legal demands. ( Section 6c requires the agency to "have an overview of relevant regulations, policies and guidelines, putting forward a plan as to how this is to be made known in the enterprise".)

VAR has a number of procedures and rationales with associated knowledge that are relevant to ensure competence and clinical best practice in a number of areas of high priority in the Patient safety action plan.

In addition, all content in VAR, both procedures, rationales, tests and not least the module "My skills" can be used for continuous professional development and staff training.

VAR SUPPORTS WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION

Patient safety is a global health priority for the World Health Organization.

As patients' treatment processes become increasingly complex, the risk of errors rises. To address this, World PAtient Safety Day is observed annually to emphasize the importance of reducing patient harm. Consequently, providing healthcare workers with access to evidence-based and up-to-date procedures is an essential and proactive measure to ensure safety and prevent errors.
